About St Mary's College

Community, Justice, Growth

St Mary’s College has been educating young women in Adelaide since 1869. As South Australia’s oldest continuously operating girls’ school, we offer a Reception to Year 12 education on a single campus in the heart of the CBD. At St Mary’s, every girl is known, valued and supported to grow in confidence and reach her full potential.

Who We Are

At St Mary’s College, we are a Catholic girls’ school in the Dominican tradition, located in the heart of Adelaide. This heritage shapes every aspect of College life - how we learn, how we care for one another, and how we engage with the world. Our students are grounded in community, justice and growth, while also growing as capable young women, ready to lead.

Central to this is our ‘I am.’ identity - recognising each girl as she is, embracing her strengths and struggles, her passions and potential. Her truth becomes our shared reality, shaping a culture where every student is known, valued and supported to grow. Each girl is empowered to discover her strengths, find her voice, and shape her own path with confidence and purpose.

Why a Single-Campus, City School?

Situated in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD, our Franklin Street campus is easily accessible from every corner of Adelaide, with public transport right at our doorstep. More than this, our central location connects students to a vibrant and well-connected learning environment.

Just as important as where we are, is how we learn together. As a Reception to Year 12 girls’ school on one campus, every student belongs to the same connected community. Older students mentor younger girls, relationships grow across year levels, and every student is part of the life of the College.

Our Story

St Mary’s College has been educating girls in Adelaide since 1869, founded by seven Dominican Sisters who arrived from Dublin with a bold vision for the education of young women. Grounded in the Dominican tradition since its earliest days, our College has always been shaped by a commitment to intellectual life, community and service. From humble beginnings on Franklin Street, St Mary’s has grown into a thriving Reception to Year 12 girls’ school in the heart of the CBD. Our alumnae include leaders, artists, scientists, athletes and advocates across many fields - each carrying forward the sense of purpose shaped by our values of community, justice and growth at St Mary’s.

Our ‘I am.’ identity is about recognising every girl as she is, her strengths and struggles, her passions and potential. Her truth is our shared reality and our purpose.

We acknowledge that we live, learn and work on the traditional land of the Kaurna people.

We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs and relationship with the land.

We acknowledge that they are of continuing importance to the Kaurna people living today.
