Learner Area Leaders

What is a Learner Area Leader at St Mary’s College?

Learner Area Leaders are a crucial ingredient in delivering innovative, refined and immersive teaching and learning strategies to each key area of the Australian Curriculum. Our Learner Area Leaders support student growth by working closely with St Mary’s to provide access to expansive resources and specialised education.

Subject teachers strategise and communicate with Learner Area Leaders to provide our students with informative, engrossing and relevant learning programs and subjects. The Learner Area Leaders progress the development of teaching and learning in subjects including English, Mathematics, Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education, Technologies, Languages, the Arts and Religious Education. The scope of Learner Area Leaders ranges from Year 7 to 12, while the Director of the Junior School upholds the title of Learner Area Leader for Reception to Year 6 as all primary teachers cover all learning areas.

Our Learner Area Leaders not only offer subject expertise, but also support collaboration across all learning areas, provide assistance in subject selection and guidance for students and teachers in working through course issues. The role of a Learner Area Leader is ultimately vital in preparing, strengthening and equipping students to undergo senior levels of subject knowledge in later studies.
