STEM at St Mary’s

St Mary’s embraces the exploration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to encourage our young women to pursue studies, careers and vocations in their chosen STEM fields. The Women in STEM program delivered at St Mary’s is intertwined within all curriculum areas to establish STEM as a core ingredient to our student’s development and learning.

The innovative role STEM plays in our cohort’s studies aims to provide opportunities for students to approach critical problem-solving and broaden their knowledge and understanding regarding the many applications of science in real-world scenarios. St Mary’s has dedicated laboratories alongside a newly developed STEM Centre for students to conduct research into robotics, construction, coding and experiments.

St Mary’s offers the perfect environment to support budding entrepreneurs, scientists and engineers. Led by an enthusiastic leadership team, steadily introducing more innovative ways to conduct our practices in STEM, our program aims to develop and foster passions in STEM through scientific experimentation, guest speakers, forums and more moving forward. We love connecting with our old scholar network to inspire new generations of STEM pioneers.

Through STEM, our students have engaged in synthesising sustainable solutions for issues, including climate change. Our STEM students have even spearheaded St Mary’s initiatives to explore more carbon-neutral and eco-friendly avenues. Students in STEM have the ability to attend national events like Future You, which pursues female involvement in STEM by raising awareness of career opportunities and creating an inviting platform for young women in the industry. Students have since pushed for reducing carbon emissions at our school, from the construction of rooftop solar panels to future plans for electric cars and charging points for the College.
